It was late summer of 2010 and the Kennebec Journal announced the closing of the Augusta based the Painted Horse, toys that teach, an educational resourse store after nearly 33 years. The orginal store opened up on water street (1977) by Phil and the late Mimi Judd. It became clear to Mr Judd that The Painted Horse was more than just a retail store, it was a stand for the well being of Maine Families. This was a time of reflection, culminating in the writing of “the action plan” and the name, Maine Families Network.
The evolution of Maine Families Network(MFN) began that summer. Thanks to a small group of Maine citizens, MFN is now an IRS 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation registered with the state of Maine. We have launched a face book and web site presense and completed a video with UMA to be available on our social media sites and You Tube. PSA’s will be hitting the air waves soon and an online Painted Horse will become a reality. We will begin to address our stated intiatives, one by one. mfn
